Revenge over Turkeys

Senior Team

Warren believes today’s showing from his a-bot-team players demonstrated that the team have improved in their mental approach to playing Turkeys and praised their team spirit.

League a-bot-team – Turkeys 3-1

It took the home side all of 10 minutes to open the scoring with Luka Burns putting abt ahead against a Turkeys side that looked caught in the headlights. Courtesy of the midfielder’s sloppy pass in the centre of the park, abt’s Alan Gold-Spink flew down the left flank before proceeding to pick out his captain on the edge of the visitors’ box. Instead of trying his own luck, the captain nodded the ball along to the waiting Burns who caught the bouncing ball on the volley to make it 1-0.
With the bit between their teeth, abt pressed on and it didn’t take long for Ryurik Izmestiev to once again threaten down the left, his a well-rehearsed corner curled towards the far post where Darren Barnes’s hard but accurate header made it 2-0. After 32 minutes into the game the home side had comprehensively stamped their authority on the game.

With momentum in their favour, abt´s began to find their form. With a free-kick outside of the Turkeys box in the 60th minute, Izmestiev fired the ball into the box with an excellent delivery that kept Björn Duv fixed to his line, but Goatsemodime Magolego saw his volley fly wide of the mark.

The game heated up as both sides created their fair share of chances throughout the remainder of the first half. With 20 minutes to go before the end, as Amilcare Fratangelo dashed up the middle, easily lobbing the ball over the home team’s keeper.
After 83 minutes, abt sent a free kick in high over the penalty box. In what looked like a well-rehearsed move, the ball was headed backwards and reached Freddie Hillman, who had plenty of space and time to place a well aimed shot, 3-1.

Season ends on a high.

Senior Team

a-bot-team brought the curtain down on season 61 with a fine 5-0 win over The dando in front of a full house at Nobodys Stadium.

league a-bot-team – The dando 5-0
“It was fantastic to see the stadium full”, admitted Warren, “We finished in second place for the second season running, conceding only nine goal in the league”.

The game itself, gave the youngsters aother change to prove themselves again, saw the home side seize the early initiative by netting the opener in the twenty-second minute through Anton Carter.

One up at half-time, a-bot-team really upped their game in the second half, and within seven minutes after the restart, Trevor Dearn scored a second.

The home side was piling on the pressure and it was only inevitable that the visitors’ defence would buckle sooner or later. So it came as no real surprise when Anton Carter broke through and increased their lead in the sixty-fourth minute to put a-bot-team three up.

A magnificent combination in the middle in the sixty-sixth minute resulted in Luka Burns and ten minutes later, Freddie Hillman cut in neatly from the left side and struck a fine shot past the away team’s goalkeeper.

The win saw a-bot-team finish the season with thirty-two points, two more than last season.

Away again!

Cup a-bot-team – Redland City Reds 1-2

The result was not unexpected by Woodhall who said afterwards, “The RedReds had more possession, more chances and more overall quality, and that why they scored more goal”.

Darren Barnes’s first minute free kick, hitting the crossbar, and Glenn Munn-Giddings, second away goal of the season were the only two chances worth mentioning in the first half.
The game only realy got started after the home team equalised in the 67′ minute. Nicky Naveaux scored with a well-rehearsed free kick. Steve Ramsay made it 1-2 for the visitor in the 85′ minute following a fine move down the left.
abt’s 19 year old defender Freddie Hillman was shown the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge on Jaakko Ojalainen, who was taken off injured. A minute later Hillman received a second yellow card after a severely mistimed tackle on Antero Borges Ribeiro and was sent off.

At the after match press conference coach Woodhall said…”I´m very pleased with the result but would like to apologise for the complete black-out of our young central defender” also “I wish the two players involved a quick recovery”.
