a-bot-team secured their second place in the league with an excellent 2-1 win over Kenniesheros at Nobodys Stadium yesterday.
Jaakko Ojalainen suddenly found himself completely free after a great move down the left making it 0-1 for the visitors.
abt seemed to have problems creating chances in the first 45 minutes, so coach Woodhall pulled center-forward, Olivier Moreau, back into midfield hoping to take contoll of the center of the park.
Ozzy Hoboken´s corner kick saw the visitors keeper drop the ball striaght at the feet of Olaf Batz, giving abt’s defender an easy chance to knock it in for 1 – 1.
76 minutes into the match and the home team took a 2-1 lead after breaking through on the left. The scorer for abt was John Martin.
“It was a very good performance from the lads”, said the coach at the post-match press conference. “We controlled the game and maintained 64 percent of possession”.
He continued,”The more possession we have, the less chance of Kenniesheros creating chances”.
Elsewhere yesterday, league leaders Broadwood FC, continued their run in the league, twelve matches unbeaten, winning 4-1 away to Stu Sinclairs Beard. Unionist AFC moved into third place beating “Bot” side, Chelsea FC reserves, 5-1.
a-bot-team – Stu Sinclairs Beard 4-1
After loosing the first two home matches of the season “a-bot-team” is now back on track, winning yesterdays league game, their second in a row.
In front of the third full-house in a row, the team went one down after only four minutes, Sinclairs forward Xaver Iodice, took advantage of what turn out to be the only goal scoring chance for the visitors.
Coach Woodhall was furious about the way the defence reacted, letting then know how annoyed he was. His mood cheered up as Ozzy Hoboken equalised nine minute later and was over the moon as Alan Gold-Spink´s chip from the middle of the penalty box found its way over the visitors’ keeper to make the score 2 – 1 to abt.
After the break, Olaf Batz (56’min) increased the lead from an acute angle and Glenn Munn-Giddings extend their lead to 4 – 1 with a fine shot in the 73′ minute.
While happy with the three points Woodhall was less happy with his side’s defending. “We were very sloppy early on and were punished for it”, he said. “We can’t afford to make mistakes like that at the back and it’s a point I’ve been impressing upon the players.”
Stu Sinclairs Beard – a-bot-team 1-3
With an excellent 3-1 win over Stu Sinclairs Beard in the league, abt moved into second place four points behind Broadwood FC.
In front of almost a full house at The Mem, abt took the lead in the fourteenth minute. Following some quick footwork on the left, abt’s Alan Gold-Spink was left completely free to score for the visitors.
After 32 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Alan Gold-Spink who increased abt’s lead to 0 – 2.
Although the home side pulled a goal back in the second half, there was never any danger of a sustained fightback as Glenn Munn-Giddings took a chance and increased the lead for abt.
